I’ll be contacting businesses about advertising at my event. What is the best way to do lead generation?

August 26th, 2009 by admin

I have heard contacting a business owner through email about the advertising/sponsor opportunity is much more better and could garner a better response if done through email as opposed to cold-calling the business. Thoughts? What would be the best way to approach businesses? I want to have an appointment to see the owners and just trying to figure out the best way to get those appointments.

Below is a link to a blog that discusses business-to-business (B2B) lead generation. You many find it helpful. I have.

Best of luck.

Consider the marketing mix. How does the marketing mix differ in the domestic and international environments?

August 11th, 2009 by admin

How is it the same? Should international marketing managers standardize the marketing mix? Why or why not?

In developing an international marketing mix, an organisation will need to decide which aspects can be standardized globally, and which must be adapted to local conditions. I’ll try to be simple with the explanation. We shall look into the 4 Ps (Product, Price , Place and Promotion) one by one to suit the context:

Product:
————
Marketing the same product to all countries (a global product) is possible when the products aren’t culture sensitive and when economies of scale are significant. It assumes that the consumer needs are very similar everywhere or that low prices will prove attractive enough to overcome differences.

If not to all the above, the product should be adapted to local conditions or choose to develop a country-specific product.

Price:
——–
There are three main types of influence on price setting for domestic product in practice: costs, competition and demand.

But for the international market, we need to consider all of the influences mentioned above plus complications of exchange rates and different economic environments.

Place:
———
This one is a key issue for entrance to global market. Here are the options:

(a) Export goods manufactured locally to the target country
(b) Transfer the technology and skills necessary to produce and market the goods to an organization in the foreign country and make licensing/contractual arrangements.
(c) Transfer manufacturing and marketing resources through direct investment in the foreign country.

Promotion:
—————
The marketing communications may need to be adapted in overseas markets.

(a) Cultural factors may be an issue. Values, attitudes and behavioral norms vary widely on a range of issues – including significant ones like gender roles, communication styles and humour.
(b) Language may be a significant barrier.
(c) Geographical remoteness should be considered. Can the media actually penetrate to the areas in question?

What are the marketing courses that i should take to be very good in marketing?

August 10th, 2009 by admin

i just started college and i was wondering what are the marketing courses that i should take?

Honestly, just take what you need to get your degree. Your schooling is going to help you get a job, if that’s what you want. You are definitely going to learn from your classes, but from my experience you will learn far more from your own experiences.

What I’m saying is this:
Get your degree to help you get a job, but use the internet and get all the experience you can for you real "education". People coming straight out of school tend to be real green :)

That’s assuming you want a job, of course. I learned marketing and I began making my living from home using the internet. No more jobs, bosses, etc. for me. The freedom is wonderful, and the money is just as sweet!

How Does Google Adwords Differ From Yahoo Local Listings?

August 8th, 2009 by admin

I like that Google has local adwords searching within my city limits, but I can’t figure out if Yahoo’s Local search is comparable.

Anyone know how they are similar/different?

They both have similar pay-per-click ad programs. Basically though, Yahoo markets itself not as a search engine, but as an Internet directory. Where as Google is a search engine. Some differences I found when advertising with both of them at the same time.
..  1) Yahoo requires you to put money into your account with them and maintain a balance. Say for instance, your spending about $10/day on advertising clicks. They want (I believe) 3 days worth of funds always in your account ( i.e. $30).

Every time your account goes under that amount, it will automatically debit the credit card you have on file with them to place more funds into the account.
Google allows you to carry a negative balance (like a running tab) with them until your scheduled time of the month to pay your bill.
Then they debt your credit card account. If it looks like your running an extra large tab (mine was every time my bill got over $500), they will go ahead and debt your card to make sure you don’t leave them with the bill.  2) Yahoo gets less traffic then Google. But it isn’t necessarily a problem since you will need to set a maximum daily budget with either of them and you will most likely always reach that amount with either company.

 3) You have to wait for administrative approval of all of your ads with Yahoo, which can sometimes take a few days. With Google, your ads go up right as you submit them and are up in seconds.
Google’s administrators will pull the ads down later if they deem them unappropriated.
This means no waiting for someone to review your work before it’s up and running.  4) One last thing. You may have hard time getting any remaining balance you have in your Yahoo Ad account back after you are done advertising and close the account.

I have been trying for years to call, write, everything to get the $89 that’s still sitting in my closed account sent back to me.
Every time I contact them they say "OK it will be sent to you within 2 weeks" and every time it never does.
This is not a problem with Google as you run a tab with them and they bill you for only what clicks you’ve received.    Hope that info was of some help lol!
